This guy is a bit laggy, but I haven't caught him in a big bluff as of yet. In this case the villain has c/r'd me 20% of the time, and has barrelled me a few times too. I had a hard time believing he'd play trips+ this way unless he had a set, and put me on a jack or str8 specifically.
This looks like a jack actually, that's a tough spot, from his flop stats he's doing this with top pair more often than not, probably good draws for the rest along with second pair some of the time, what worries me is that he's not slowing down, with a lot of the weaker CRs an opponent will back off at some point, he's also not concerned when the second jack hits and at this point if he's on a draw and missed he's going to put you on a jack a lot of the time. I'd probably fold this on the flop believe it or not, most players would think this would be too tight but I figure since I'm up against a jack more than 50% of the time based upon the combination of his calling ranges preflop and his flop CR number, I'm going to lose more money overall than I win here and it's going to be a leak, I'd thank him for check raising the thing and throw the hand away. I do think though that the barrel on the turn makes this decision even easier, and it's even easier again on the river with the jacks pairing and he's still firing out. He's very likely got trip jacks and value towned you.
Vs said villain I agree he would play a jack this way, but I think Cobra you might be discounting the semi bluff hands here as well.How does he play diamonds, particularly good ones? Does he just check fold the turn? Check and hope you check back? How does he play 96?It seems to me a 20% CR guy that has fired barrels and has been laggy may not bluff here often, but will semi bluff a lot, if not always.The flop raise is also smaller and I think if you're calling the river in this hand it's because there's a lot of non J in his range, which makes this blank river a call without a read to say otherwise (like "won't fire 3 as a bluff" or something along those lines).
Yeah, that's pretty much what i was thinking. He's barrelled/cr'd me a lot on wetter boards, so i theorized that he was doing it with draws a lot. I also didn't think that a psvb seemed to fit this villain on the river with a J, though that assumption is possibly a mistake.
Q: why do you c-bet? if he likes to check raise you on wet boards you are asking for a tough decision later in the hand because with his preflop calling range he could also have a made hand. you are simultaneously building a pot without learning much about his hand. if he has junk he might fold to your c-bet but decide to bluff if you check so there will be more bluffs in his range if you check. that combined with the fact that you are keeping the pot small by checking will make it easier to pick off a bluff. the down side is that you give him a free card, but that is the lesser of two evils in this case i think.

Kind of out of my league here, since i'm only playing the $5(and reviving the death at that). Anyway, since his c/r seems to be working on you or he is overusing the concept, then every c/r has a different association behind the thought. I'm sure you can get him to c/r after a while when you wish to, and create a setup since he overflows the pot he'd flat alot since he creates odds with his own dead money. Hope that made sense?
