Shout out for Primo

Basically wanna thank primo for coaching me... anyone who is thinking abt doing it... DO IT!... it was well worth the money..

I had my best month ever and I am pretty sure its no coincidence..

Husngs... I went -$600 at the start of month and managed to finish +$2.7k @ $55s, (9% ROI, 480 games)

Shortstacking cash +$500

I also played in a tourney where the winner would play on tv (sky sports) in the uk, got hu and lost :(
i was pretty disapointed but got like $500 for 100 fpps.. no real consilation tho

Total profit $3.7k plus a ton of fpps to cash :D

thanks a ton buddy :), from what i've seen your future results should prove that this isn't just a random occurance, you have all the tools you need to bear your level, and the 110s, so keep crushing and i'm sure i'll be having to wait for you on 220 lobbies soon enough ;)

Ty

Yeah maybe into nxt year the 220s wil be possible... I wish I wasnt so BR nitty :P

it's a good thing, believe

it's a good thing, believe me. Ask countless other BR nits (Hokiegreg, Croixdawg, M@D@M@D@D@NE, DiBasio, BCM11, all known for their RIDICULOUS nittyness w/their BRs, it def. is a common quality shown across most big winners, so be thankful for it :)

What's considered nitty? 50 BIs? 60 BIs? Quarter kelly's?

Primo is likely referring to the 100+ buyin range.

yea, I currently have like

yea, I currently have like 200+ BI for the levels I am playing, BCM was known for having like 150k+ and still playing 220s, and the same w/DiBasio, he doesnt spend much $, has made like 300k+ this year, and is still playing 200s-500s. M@D@M@D@D@NE started at $100 HUs w/a 100k roll, croixdawg has made like 600k+ online, prolly way more now, and another 1M in Live tourneys and still rarely ever plays above 1k, I mean don't get me wrong, i've played on 30 BI roll too, and do so semi frequently, and I only keep about 50-75 BI online for the levels im playing, but I much much prefer a higher level of stability/mental ease to 'maxing out value' or whatever.

** NOTE **       ^^ the above advice is for once you are playing full time or already established yourself at a level where you are at least moderately happy with the income (this usually sets in around the 55s/110s for most), I do not reccomend people playing $5s / $10s / $20s or trying to move up, build a roll, etc., to have 100 BI or anything like that, this is a v different scenario

Thanks Primo, reading your

Thanks Primo, reading your thoughts on issues like BR management are some of my favorite posts. It does make the task of bankroll building that much more daunting but I'm glad you added the caveat that the extreme BR protection is more for when you're ready to go full time and at the higher mid stakes. I am someone that needs the mental anguish in poker reduced as much as possible so I look forward to being a giant BR nit - but my plan was always only to do that once I hit the 55s on Stars and keep a pretty aggressive BR until then (10 BIs up to the 22s then only move up to the 33s when I have 30+BIs, then super nit for 55s).

Let me ask your thoughts on this, though, Prims - having 100BIs or more definitely reduces the stress of watching your roll take hits during a downswing, but nothing can actually stop the downswing itself. You can go on a 20BI downswing and still be plenty safe with your nit roll, but then you have to make up those BIs AND make profit before you can make a withdrawal. That's a long time without a payday. How do you handle paying yourself during a week or more long downswing. Do you pay yourself at all?

I should really take a shot

I should really take a shot at the 115s now i suppose. I had to cash some $$ out so 50 buy in's for the 115s its ok? I am still gonna move up and down alot to begin with i think.. unless I run super hot..

@DntCaltACmBK, I think you

@DntCaltACmBK, I think you question does not only relates to poker it is a general aspect of life. Its like you have an own business and therefore you should also save some money and strictly separate your poker BR from your earnings when you cashout. Thta means if you play Poker for a living and have for example a month you cashed out 3000$ then you should save some of the money for that days you couldn't cash out or better to have some savings that you can live for more than a month or so without cashing out.

I think a serious business man or woman get those things also into consideration when decided to make an own business for living and not say  "from today on I be a pro". It needs a "businessplan" IMHO.

Make me a business plan :)

ok i'll do these one at a

ok i'll do these one at a time :).

@DntCalACmBk

tbh I dont really pay myself on a regular basis, some people do and I think it's a super cool idea, but I have a reserve in my bank just at what im comfortable with, and then I cash out when I need it, or when I get above what I feel is over-rolled for my limits online (for the limits I play right now if I have >20 or 25k online I usually cash out back to 15-20k) and then rinse / repeat

PrimordialAA's picture

@Derek (184)

def. take a shot, when I try to move up limits I take small shots just to get myself very comfortable with the new limit, for instance if you have 5k, maybe say you'll take a '5 BI shot', and if you drop below $4500 drop back down to 55s, and if you stay above $4500 re-analyse at the end of 3 days, 5 day, 1 week or something, and maybe drop down based on comfort level to try again in another few days / weeks or stay there if you feel like your able to, but it's def. a good way to get yourself comfortable with the level and not put too much risk to your bankroll

I like your way of phrasing this alot, it seems like your mindset is catered very well towards playing poker seriously, so I hope you continue to gain the other aspects of your skillset you need to become as well rounded as possible, but it seems your on the right track :)

Played a 115 session

Played a 115 session earlier... went fairly well... think I went +4. Happy with that considering it was 80% regs that sat me bcos they dont recognice my name obv. Hopefully I aquitted myself well euf that at least a few of the regs dont sit me. On the whole I dont think there is much difference between the 55s and 115s, obv I havnt played many games but I am pretty confident I can beat this level too. Made a rule for 2day... if I went under 5k I would go back to 55s. Thankfully thats didnt happen. But I do like the 5 BI rule... if I drop 5 BI's... u drop back down to 55s for a few games. I think I wil use this for a while at least until I get my roll even more padded. :D
