A new players journey...

Hi All,

This is kind of update post, advice post and a general strategy post for me.

So far... I’ve bought Sentin and Greenbast video packs and Will Tiptons book volume one. I’m very impressed with both video packs and book all very informative and helping my play. So far I’ve probably only played about 500 games over networks Stars, Titan, 888 and Ongame. My ROI% varies between networks but my sample size is far too small for that to mean anything significant. But I’m enjoying playing which is important to me.

I first bought the Sentin video pack thinking I would jump straight into playing Hypers but soon realised how volatile these were and switched to Turbos and bought Greenbasts pack in belief that for a new player trying to learn HUSNGs would find it easier due to the slower game play (hopefully a better learning curve) with less variance. Sometimes in microstake hypers I felt unsure even looking over HHs if I was making the right choice or not.

In regards to strategy I tend to do the following;

  • Readless I tend to open 75% from SB  and limp 70% from the BB and 3bet around 20ish% - I tend to find the majority of players in the micros are loose aggressive/passive players
  • As soon as possible I’ll try and classify my opponent pre and post flop as tight agg, loose agg, tight pass and loose pass and adjust accordingly.
    • If loose agg pre I start to limp more increase 3bet range
    • If loose agg post I tend to start calling down, letting them build the pot and giving more value to my high and med pairs
    • If tight agg pre I start widening my range, widen my 3bet range while tightening 3bet calling range; if played back at I assume its value based and  call with higher end of range folding weaker end
    • If tight agg post I increase Cbet range and when played back at I give less value high and med pairs, assume again that opponent is value betting and assess situation.
    • If tight pass pre I increase opening range, tighten 3bet calling range
    • If tight pass post I increase Cbet range and when played back at I give less value high and med pairs, assume again that opponent is value betting and assess situation.
    • If loose pass pre I increase my 3bet range
    • If loose pass post I start to play fit or fold betting when I hit piece checking when I don’t
  • As stack depths decrease my hand ranges tighten slightly.
  • I tend to wait until 8BB or less before I switch to NASH from SB and play NASH from BB whenever SB wants or 8BB or less
  • Preflop I’m a bit unsure about when to 3 bet shove 8-30BB. I know how to calculate if it is profitable (using 3 bet shove calc) I assume you would take this line when it is most profitable. So the alternatives are to call or 3bet nai. When would a 3bet shove preflop 8-30BB be more profitable? I assume it would be when the opponent is loose preflop and has a higher chance of being called. However if tight a raise with higher end of 3bet shove range and shoving lower end of 3bet shove range. I also guess frequency depends on how my opponent views my ranges. At the micros I would assume that maybe one or two shoves they may precieve as premimiun hands or lower PPs but 3+ would maybe be viewed as ‘maniac’ like and then may call a shove looser giving more value to Ax and K9+ hands

My question is.... Am I on the right track with above? Are these general adjustments ok?

Study wise I have been watching videos, reading books and reviewing hand history. I find reviewing my hand history quite difficult due to the looseness of the players i.e. someone who opens close to 100% and cbets flops close to 100% at most stack depths. The range I can narrow them down too is very, very wide.

Well any advice or criticism is welcome.

Cheers
