its close between checking

its close between checking the turn  and doing what you did. Population tendencies let us know that a c/r on the turn is a really strong line. With the line we took, I prefer a hero fold on the turn. Check back turn and reevaluate river is also a good line. Potentially turn our hand into a bluff catcher.

Hi there Lawboyy One

Hi there Lawboyy

One possibility is to underbet the turn, say 40 chips. You are then in a position to fold to a large c/r, or call a small c/r, with the intention of trying to see a cheap showdown.

I'd be interested to hear whether anyone thinks this play has merit? It's a play I hear recommended quite often, but I'm unsure whether it's the best line?

Calling turn and then folding

Calling turn and then folding river the way stacks are here is pretty lolbad imo.

In this spot I would bet fold turn and for most river cards:

- if bet into on river => fold

- if checked to on river => check back

I expect villain's flop c/c range to be comprised of mostly:

4x, 2x, draws (including some overcards)

The turn completes some of the straight draws, but I expect villain's range at the start of the turn to still be mostly bluff catchers & draws.

I am happy bet folding the turn because:

1. We are ahead of most of villain's range so there is value in betting and folding out his cumulative overcard & weak draw equity is quite valuable in this spot (protection benefit)

2. Without reads that villain is a very good player I don't expect villain to make me fold the best hand here:

   a. I don't expect a villain who will c/c draws on flop to start c/r them on the turn unimproved

   b. I don't expect most villains to be capable of turning weak showdown value like like 2x into a bluff in this spot to exploit my perception of the population's turn c/r range nuttiness

   c. Likewise, I don't expect the population to be floating the flop a whole lot here, to get to the turn with more hands with which to balance their turn c/r range
