HSR weekly report #50: mad_domonox: "my nicest herocall ever"; chadders0 - the struggle continues (+VIDEO; +CHAT)

This week I tracked 19 players - 10 showed profit, 9 had losses. Winners combined for about $160,400, losers for only about $116,500. Korpieworm played biggest sample again - 1186 games.

2 days ago one reddit member raised interesting conversation: Is there a 'cartel' of high stakes HUSNG players who attack regs who try to move up in stakes? (CLICK HERE)

mad_domonox: No he just reps nothing all the way. I was planning to shove river because some hands still beat me but I thought a 9high call would be way cooler so i clicked call.

2013 stats and graph

What is your strenghts and weaknesses?

I think I am very good handreader and I play my ranges very well in most spots especially against fish. My weaknesses are my multitalbling skills and concentration issues that I have sometimes. Playing long sessions is impossible for me.

Tell me your start in poker and how you managed to climb up the stakes up to high buy-ins?

I started to play poker 2009 when I heard about the free 50$ on pokerstrategy.com. I donked around for 3-4 months playing cash game and 9max sng not making any significant winnings. I played my first 5$ husng (regular speed) in the beginning of 2010. From there it took me half a year to reach the 200s playing straight forward and exploiting fish tendencies. I play highstakes for more than 2 years now and I still feel like I'm improving every session. My results confirm that feeling.

Last week Leon "flippetyflop" Louis launched fundraising campaign in justgiving.com. He is aiming to raise 1,000 pounds for Cancer Research UK while not drinking alcohol during the process. He wrote:

Drinking is one of my biggest vices!

Since there's absolutely no chance of me giving up on any of my other main vices........brothels,chocolate, or sexy secretary videos on YouPorn, ''Dryathlon'' seems like the perfect opportunity for me try and raise money for a great cause and also get healthier in the process.

I know it can be tough in the new year, but please show your support for Cancer Research and donate anything you can....and if I reach my 1k target if I see you in February the pints are on me !

Please help Leon to reach his goal by donating and sharing this campaign via social media: http://www.justgiving.com/disaronnoandcoke

Note: We use multiple collection methods to parse together stats. We use everything from tracking sites, to private sources to actual player reports (on themselves and opponent results). Due to the nature of collection methods, these stats should only be used for entertainment purposes. They are not accurately enough in any way to be used by governments, or for any official purposes. Actual stats for players that are reliable for legal purposes would need to be gathered directly from the poker rooms. No sources that we use are close to as accurate as the poker room themselves.

cartel link working, found

cartel link working, found also other forum link to another cartel (60-100$) i think. Scare me a bit even if im still at 7$ it make me sick to see this im know im gonna grind anyway and rise up then after what? Been block or bumhunt from all those pool of regs pushing away grinder to keep the small fish pool to us..Ok i can maybe understand at 1k$ etc but 60-100$ really? Come on..

This is typical of maturing

This is typical of maturing markets. Although usually companies are limited by anti-trust laws from making such explicit collusion agreements lol.
Not a good sign for the long term sustainability of professional online poker.
Customers don't keep coming back when they're being so blantantly ripped off.

ImGen1us's picture
Yeah but also to consider,

Yeah but also to consider, some site already adopt a way to prevent bumhunting like doing anonymous lobby so you have to play random and some even after dont have nickname so give less opportunity for this kind of business. Stars may take this in consideration if it become a scandal or something..

Annonymity mechanisms also

Annonymity mechanisms also devalue the poker experience though.
Building reads and getting inside your opponents head is a large part of what makes poker a strategically interesting game in my opinion.

I think it's a balance. But willingly maximising short term profits at the expense of driving casual players out of the game is a pretty bad business decision for professional players.

ImGen1us's picture
Yeah we all know but thats

Yeah we all know but thats what happen when a portion of the player pool (not all regs but bunch from 60$-300s) doing this bumhunting things to keep fish. Pokerstars and big rooms most find way each time a typical games become less play like hu cash things (bumhunt lobby etc) now they add hu cash on zoom which is a better move than doing nothing for the business. Also they add new games like 5 card omaha and 5 card courcheval who is really good for action and really soft since people dont realize what adjustment they should make from omaha or holdem to 5 card. In general, poker room find way to rise up action when something like to struggle and i really hope they work on this issue if its become in bigger picture.

It's actually better to have

It's actually better to have cartels than not, because without these cartels many of the regs are just too weak minded to decide to sit a lot of regs on their own for the greater good. It literally requires groups of players at the $60s and $100s to hold elections, form groups and decide who to sit, otherwise nobody plays regs and everyone bumhunts.
So my point is that this is better for Stars, and better for good regs. It makes it so that the weakest regs need to work harder.
However, in reality, the lower levels have too much politics involved to truly be "the best regs." There are many players that shouldn't be in that are in. This should be good news for anyone who is scared of these cartels. Just make friends with the right people and don't act like a baby when the cartel sits you, and you will be fine long term. December is a bad month because everyone is trying to hit milestones, but long term, if you're a good player, you're not going to be shut out of $60s and $100s unless you handle yourself poorly when facing regs (and even then, if you're good enough, it doesn't matter).
I agree that this is a natural occurrence, and I also believe it's not anything to worry about. It's only as scary as you let it be, the more you freak out and act emotional about this stuff and fail to work on your game, the more effective cartels are, and that's not really a bad thing.

thanks for sharing opinion on

thanks for sharing opinion on this things Rypac really appreciate it, gotta agree on couple things on this situation. Like i said (dont remember if i said it here on skype with Cdon) but i will keep working on my game anyway and not that close to become the one who will get either bumhunt or hunt myself. Since i've see the list i find it pretty funny because i watch couple of guys sometimes and some should be close and exchange HH and opinion but they are no room for more reg at the level and the reg decide to bumhunt to one who is attending but will surely be soon or later in the regs section hopefully for him because i think he work hard and can really bet lot of regs that only wanna sit fish and gonna challenge themself a bit.

If you become a big enough

If you become a big enough shark you can eat other sharks. Mr Green comes to mind with over $1m annual profit vs some of the best regs in the game.
