Hand Review : Is a standard 3 barrel correctly used here ? Or am i missing out something ?

Hi All,

After 19 hands with villian. He opens 70%, vpip 50% and limps 30%. Folds to preflop 3 bet 2 out of 2 times. 3-bets me 2 out of 4 times.

Is this standard 3 barrel correctly used here ? Or am i missing out something ?

I'm not an expert. Just

I'm not an expert. Just started playing HU hypers myself (15$ on stars), and try to learn something everyday. English is not my first lanuage, but I try to make my thoughts clear. But enough about me, back to the hand.
If I'm villain on the river her, I'm calling.
I would check behind river here if I was in your shoes, can't see him calling with much we beat, maybe a couple of PP that he didn't raise preflop, but that's not many combination imo, 66+ I guess he would 3B? I see some tight players call with low PP, but here they most likely would hit a set. We have 2nd pair with WORST kicker possible. As played, any Jx calls, any Ax for sure, I think 5x would fold on turn/river, so we're not getting value from that one.
This is a kind of spot I see over and over. What to do with 2nd pair on river, when the board runs out nicely for our hand. We are only afraid of some gutshots to hit etc. I think we get most value from checking behind, but I like this play a lot more if we did it with completely air, I just can't se how he could call down with anything we beat. Or am I to tight in my thinking here? If he was on flushdraw, we win. If he had a J or A we loose. Maybe some low connectors like 23, 24, 25, 46 or something, but all of them beat us. My standard play here would be check, but maybe bet/shove if I knew he was able to call down with a 5, but it's not many combination who cold call down we beat imo.

it´s hard to imagine a hand

it´s hard to imagine a hand villain will reach the river with that you can beat. only a passively played FD, like Qh7h, but that will not call another bet OTR. you are only folding out his missed FDs or gutshots like KQ, which is pretty bad, because if he has to show the hand down, you get some valuable information about how he is playing certain hands. if you fold him out, you´ll never know if it was a FD, SD, or 5x.
all of his wheel draws have either made the wheel or become 2pair, plus all of villain´s jacks beat you (except for the unlikely scenario of a split, which you might fold out actually). it´s perfectly fine to barrel twice, because there still is a FD out there that you want to charge, plus villain could have picked up additional equity on the turn with a hand like Kh4h, but on such a runout, there´s no reason to put any more money into the pot.

Thanks Skyhawk and Dipl. Komp

Thanks guys for the explanation. I think I will need to learn when to stamp on the brake when need to. I often just barrel without a good reason as i always feel that aggression is best. But now i am seeing the light.
Appreciate it !
