Without out reads and early

Without out reads and early on, I would definitely tend to check here.  Getting check-raised would be a nightmare and the better hands that are beating you won't fold unless he has a weak jack.  For this reason, I don't really like a bet because I think he'll almost never call with worse to a double barrel on this board (excluding monster draws like KQcc,T9cc, etc.).  Getting check-raised bluffed off the best hand plus a flush draw would suck (but depending on the stakes of this match this may be very uncommon for a standard villain).  Without any reads at all, I'd check back and then make my decision on the river based on what the river card is and how I think it connects with his perceived range.  Hope this helps :)

when you bet it's for

when you bet it's for value/protection/bluff, it seems there is no value here, no need to protect, and you have some showdown value so you don't need to turn your hand in bluff here so I think I check back this turn.
