Did i play this hand to passively?

 Hi

Villain was tight/passive with a low cbet frequency but occasional outbursts of tiger style aggresion normally when he had a hand,  i was comfortable chipping away at his stack and didnt need to rush to get it all in.  With the hand below i was pretty sure villain was on over cards and put me on a draw or a weak pair they could push me off.

Do you think i should have fired on the river/re raised the flop/turn, at the time my thinking was a reraise on the river wouldnt be nice as with this player it would likely mean i was beat by the 7 but i dont think i can fold as its v unlikely he had it and thinking worst case scenario is a mistake,  maybe i could make it look like i missed my flush and get called by a pair with a decent kicker.  In the end i went with checking as i hoped he would fire again and i could catch him with his trousers down/control the pot a little. he showed down Q9 so i doubt i missed any value by not raising.  Still feels like i played it badly in general, maybe it would have been better to re-raise the flop?

Generally how would you play the worse end of a straight, pot control to a comfortable size or look to get as many chips in as possible early?

cheers

Oli

"Villain was tight passive

"Villain was tight passive with a low cbet frequency ..." - am I the only one who's seeing a problem with calling here on top pair + idiot end's oesd ?

If he really has such a low cbet frequency, then I don't see him cbet here that often with naked overs - and your outs aren't clean here since he could easily hit a higher straight or a flush.

I'd just check/fold this on the flop and wait for a better chance, but call me weak ...

As played, I also check/call turn and check/fold any river unless I have reason to believe that he's ever bluffing with complete air.

 Tbh,  the debate i was

Tbh,  the debate i was having in my head at the time was one of these three things:

1 - fold wait for a better spot
2 - semi bluff the flop
3 - go fishing for the straight whilst possibly being ahead with the pair and keep the pot small, re-evaluate on the turn.

1 - i was fine with but just decided not to in this case, partly probably because of curiosity as to how they would play the turn/river and how they play a low board and i figured i had a reasonable amount of equity in the pot.
2 - seemed dumb with overs and better draws there
3 - with 3 when i hit the straight i couldnt fold the flop their bet felt a little desperate at the time, not sure exactly why though.   i probably would have folded the river to a value looking bet, what would have been difficult is a pot size bet as at the smaller stakes these are normally air but a decent player at these stakes could be doing it to look week

Does the villain double barrel frequently? Or is most the time the villain checking turn? If he is checking the turn then this is an easy call with a hand that may be best now and a good chance to improve.

If villans double barreling frequency is high then this is a fold as there is not enough turn cards you want to see to make flop call profitable.

If this was me playing the hand and I had no information with regards to users double barreling frequency then I dont mind a call.

Did you put villain on overs because there were three low cards on flop or do you have ESP ;-)
