The villain was loose and aggressive he was 3betting light and calling 3bets light and I had seen him c/r the flop before then shove the turn with air when he was short stacked, but I was just unsure here because it was on the turn and turn c/r are generally stronger? or does that not matter against a maniac sort of player?

I think aggressive shorties

I think aggressive shorties have general tendency to c/shove flop or turn with top pair, and basically its a good play, although some of them just might not know that. :)  Merits are that it keeps their range wide as most maniacs will do that with any piece of a flop. It could be just my selective memory, because I remember vividly that I've been burnt bunch of times while calling this off, but I still think its a call. Turn brought even more draws in play, and flop already had some oesds in it, so that just widens villains range further.
