Mindfulness

It's funny, I remember recommending this very book to an opponent who asked me for a good poker book some 8 years ago on Full Tilt (my poker debuts as MindfuII Dragon =).  For me it has been shockingly helpful in life and I felt it helped greatly for poker as well. MBSR is very related to the teachings of zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, mindfulness being the core concept of both, pretty sure the first is just a way to bring its benefits to people who would otherwise be blocked by the religious connotation of buddhism. I'm very excited to see that Sentin7 is bringing it to the poker community.

Yes, Tolle definitely did an incredible job of describing the mindfulness philosophy and presenting Thich Nhat Hanh's teachings in a way that would appeal to a wider audience. I think reading his work to get inspired is a really good idea, but I also think creating a specific and structured way to apply its teachings into day to day life is the real key.  I know I would always get super motivated when I would read or listen to Tolle, but within a day or two I would be right back in the midst of my unaware mindset. This is why the MBSR program was so valuable to me personally. Since the program was developed and conducted in a research environment with actual medical patients, Jon Kabat-Zinn and his team really got to look at how to implement the philosophy in a defined and functional manner that would show concrete, real-life benefits, and I found having such a structured program really helped me remain focused on my goal of improving my mindfulness.
