poker goals 2014 - Arronwilson

Hi everyone thought I would make some goals for 2014.  I made a goal post for last year which some of you may of read.

For the past 14 months or so I worked pretty hard on my game and sacrificed a lot of time into playing, learning and getting better.   In that timeframe I moved up 4 buyin levels from $7s to $100s, pokertracker included Arron Wilson Goals Thread

There’s no doubt your average husng player is becoming tougher as poker evolves but I plan on putting in a lot of effort on improving and staying a few steps ahead. I am always open to advice and other players thoughts on hands, some regs I have found can have really big egos when it comes to poker.  They don’t like another reg pointing out a leak or criticizing a hand they played bad so they just choose to ignore anyone’s opinions if it disagrees with theirs.  I think being like that can really damage your progression and sooner or later you may find yourself falling behind the curve to the players that are openly talking strategy with each other and improving day in day out.

I have some well-known and respected husng players coaching me turbos and hypers which I am confident will help me a ton.  I am still staking mostly friends and some of them have moved up 3 buyin levels since 2013.  It’s really satisfying for me to be able to help them improve their game along the way and watch them get better and better.

As of now I am playing $60 and $100 turbos and $30 and $60 hypers.  My 2 main goals for this year is

  1. Move up another 1 or 2 buyin levels to $200s and $300s
  2. Make somewhere between 50 – 70k in ev and just hope the actual winnings is somewhere near that smiley
  3. Make Supernova

I will update this every so often with some graphs and try and put out some regular videos which will be mostly turbo format, good luck at the tables, Arron

Thanks guys

Thanks guys, if the blog inspires or motivates anymore I am glad I wrote it.

The things that will help you the quickest is watching videos and good players and understanding their reasoning for plays, I always recommend mersonarys videos to people, hes a solid player and is really good at explaining his thought process and concepts without going over peoples heads.

I think there is a lot of good information out there explaining the fundamentals but I still feel the more advanced stuff is harder to find.  Most players know how to play their strong holdings postflop but I think its the weak - medium hands people find hard playing postflop and its were the biggest edges comes from in turbos.   That is the kind of stuff I do a lot of thinking about and talk about with players I respect, and some of them admit its something they don't think about as much as they should.

Flop decisions are easy when you flop top set but its when you have 2nd or 3rd pair on dry or wet flops is where your hand reading skill really get tested and I feel its where people get really lost and just ending up paying people off or folding when they are getting bluffed because they have no idea where they are in the hand.  You should be thinking about more than your hand strength, you should also factor what your opponent can have, your equity vs those ranges and how he plays those ranges on the flop vs whether you cbet or check behind and on later streets.

Thinking about how your hand plays vs those ranges is sometimes more important than your hand strength on the flop, its more complex than cbetting and folding out his equity share, you have to factor in his general tenancies so far, his c/r % on different flop textures and his barreling frequencies on runouts and how it interacts with what he thinks your ranges are ( if hes even thinking about your range).  I may do a video on this at some stage but spots like that with bluffcatchers and getting to showdown as profitably as possible factoring in your opponents frequencies and the board runout is where I feel most people struggle postflop the most in husngs.

Thanks for the answer, so you

Thanks for the answer, so you think mers videos are the best to get some strong thought process ?

How many hours did you study/play each week last year?

i wanted to play hypers but i play on ps.fr and it seems the rake is killing my bankroll so i decided to stick to turbos but i need to study.

I'm not good at it and i don't really know where to begin

Sorry for my english

Yeah if you are new to

Yeah if you are new to turbos watch all his videos, you will need premium access to those videos though.

Its hard to say with playing, coaching and studying and talking to players, but a lot of hours for sure.

Also watch some of the well respected players on tv and how they play their hands and try to understand why, surround yourself with players also that you can talk strategy with on skype and share hand history with.

Hey Arron, great post and i

Hey Arron, great post and i have added interest as i am a grinder have just moved up to the 30's hyper turbo HU, only played 500 games but am finding these stakes a lot harder with the more aggressive opponent, i had 4.65% ROI Adjust at 7's (2472 games) and 4.46% ROI adjust (2575 games) - i always one table -  and i think i think i can analysis the CoffeeHud pretty nicely after having it for a few months.

I feel i am playing a little passively (could get away with it at 15's but possibly not at the 30's) as my non-Showdown winnings are going down. How important are programmes such as ICMIZER and Flopzilla? I have yet to purchase ICMIZER although trying to improve everyday using the methods you have already stated and as i am upto the 30's i think it may be time.

Learning the math of

Learning the math of situations will defs improve your game.  Those softwares will show you what peoples overall ranges look like in spots but its up to the player to try and figure out how they play those ranges, that comes from hand reading skills and experience, the better you get at that the more you can make bighero calls and laydowns.

Oh, here is your new blog. I

Oh, here is your new blog. I will be following it! GL! Great attitude and amibition.

As I am moving up myself from the $7s (started at $3.5), I hope to get equal results as yours were in 2013. What do you think from which to which stake level have the biggest differences been? Did you crush the limits on the hypers already from the beginning or did you realize that you have to make some improvements or maybe both?

ARRONWILSON's picture
Hi Mayo thanks for the post.

Hi Mayo thanks for the post.  I am sure you can do the same if you are super committed to the cause.  I was lucky enough to never get stuck at a level and kept hitting my evroi targets.  The one stake i noticed the biggest difference was going from 30s to 60s.  I think the other levels are very beatable if you are willing to put in the effort and time required to being one of the profitable players there.  Transitioning from turbos to hypers though i defs had to adapt my game a little.  One thing i defs noticed is the majority of people playing hypers don't play post flop as well as turbo regs so i was happy playing more pots post flop vs them,  preflop I had to learn more of the math of shallow stack play vs peoples tendencies which i learned along the way while moving up.

Thanks for your answer Arron.

Thanks for your answer Arron. I will try to move up at 50 BI for the next stake and will move down at 40 BI. Did you 2 Table at the beginning? Most of the time I am one tabling but sometimes two tabling also. But I then recognize that I play more vs the population tendencies instead of really focusing on the opponent whilest two tabling. He then has to make some weird stuff to get exploitet by me but I am still a winning player two tabling. Are you in a Skype channel or something so that I can join you?

Best of luck!

I have been keeping an eye on

I have been keeping an eye on your own forum Mayo, hope you do well this year.  Keep playing 2 tables if you feel comfortable and are winning.  The groups I am mostly in are part of staked groups, if you email me privately I can maybe give you my skype.

Thought I would update the

Thought I would update the blog with some pokertracker pictures, didn't have a good night tonight on the grind

Year to date stats so far, played 125 $100 husngs so far with 6.7% evroi, will try my best to maintain that over a larger sample as i want to move up to 200s. As for hypers I am still playing a lot of $30 hyper games as I find the standard there quite bad compared to 60s where the edges are shorter with so many regs battling. I have 2.1% ev at 60s, 90% of that is vs regs and I have 3.68% ev at 30s over a much larger sample

knoxxxy's picture
Good stuff Arron, impressive

Good stuff Arron, impressive stats for the year to date - keep it going battling those regs!

ARRONWILSON's picture
Heres an update of the year

Heres an update of the year so far, almost 4k below EV but battling on and not letting it affect my game.  Been happy with my $60 turbo results, got 10.6% ev over 1389 games and the hypers are going well too EV wise.  Been playing some $100s, will bring out a vid in the next week playing some regs. Gl guys

Your last 1k games looks like my 2014 graph.

Solid that you're not letting it affect your game.

Unlucky swing Arron, great

Unlucky swing Arron, great graph though and look forward to your video, what stakes in the Hypers have you been playing in? As i am looking to transition into the 30's when i feel im good enough I wondered about your thoughts on the 30 level? Are there still weak opponents that sit the lobby second at them levels?

ARRONWILSON's picture
Thanks Ciaran and Ben.

Thanks Ciaran and Ben. 30s and some 60s.  I think you can make good money at 30s, there are still a lot of bad players there.  Is there any kind of videos you guys would like me to bring out, I am open to suggestions.

lindridgeben's picture
Hey Arron, i would like to

Hey Arron, i would like to view you analysis a 30 dollar hyper-turbo HU video of your own against random opponents (although this is my personal opinion), if not a leakfinder of somebody elses at them stakes would be pretty cool :)

ARRONWILSON's picture
I will keep that in mind and

I will keep that in mind and its certainly something I will do for the site if there is more demand.  I have a new video coming out in the next few days analyzing interesting hands vs regs and taking some creative lines and what to consider in tough spots.  Leaving you guys with my month to date graph so far.

sick variance bro, hope good variance will come soon for u! i've seen u play at stars the last couple days the 30$ turbos, and u really real souls.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Ty  jlt84 for the rail.

Ty  jlt84 for the rail.  Heres my graph for the month so far, my goal was to get 3k in ev this month, got 2.45k so far so going to try and get another 550 in the next 2 days.  I received a lot of positive feedback on my last video playing regs so I may make another one like that.

Below year to date graph for all games - running around 5k under ev

Below $60 turbos year to date = 9.87% ev

Below $30 hypers year to date = 3.94% ev

Impressive adjusted ROI in

Impressive adjusted ROI in turbos.

I tried playing some turbos myself last month and it seems that I can play 3 times as many hypers in the same time period. One tabling I can play 12-15 hypers per hour and only 4-5 turbos. So it looks like that I would need 3 times higer ROI in turbos for them to be as profitable for me as hypers, but I don't think that this is achievable for me in turbos so I decided to stick to hypers.
I also noticed that sometimes I have to wait much longer for games to fill up in turbos than in  hypers.  But my sample is not big enough in turbos so I might be wrong.

Could you please let us know what is your average game duration in turbos and in hypers and how many games per hour you can play on average? I'm trying to decide if it is worth to give another shot to turbos or not...

ARRONWILSON's picture
I checked for the year. 19

I checked for the year. 19 hypers per hour, 6 turbos per hour.  Unfortunately I have to do more waiting around for lobbies now. I don't know what stakes you play but I would imagine at lower stakes with sharkystator and less regs and by multi tabling you could get much higher tables per hour.  You could try setting up your filters to play both turbos and hypers.

it1111's picture
It looks like you also

It looks like you also roughly have about the same ratio, 3 hypers to 1 turbo. This is what I wanted to know.

Thanks for the info.
