Moving through for pocket money

Hey guys,

I'm new here,

I've only recently started playing hyper husng's; use to play reg and standard sngs and always thought hyper = no skill coin flips.

After playing a few I was hooked and realised they're way more fun then standard so much action in so little time. I've played for a couple years, while i've ran well live, i'm pretty poor at cash games online (more based off poor brm).

Being a uni student, i'm using poker as hopefully a hobby to earn some spare change on the side. Currently have $30 on stars, looking at grinding the $1.50 hyper's. Played about 40 so far, however after a big upswing and big downswing I've turned my 25 into 30.

My goal is to grind my $30 to $!00 then turn $100 into $250 then start playing $3.

I think this is doable, hoping I don't run too bad. I've got cadder's hyper turbo pack, which will hopefully see me through!

Goal: $30 into $100 (Is my brm plain stupid based on variance?, should I make my br $100 and try to grind to $200 on the $1.50's?)

Time Frame: 2 months (Exams coming up and going overseas for a week)

Thoughts guys!? (Also feel free to add me on skype 'wagsthedog5' )

Cheers!

Only having 20 buyins is a

Only having 20 buyins is a little short. If you plan to reload if you bust it, then it's fine, but I would give it more than a 20 buyin shot, as even the best players with high edges have downswings far bigger than 20.
Starting with $100 in the $1.50s makes a bit more sense to me, but you don't need the $100 to be on the poker room... you can just use the $30 and if you bust it, deposit another $30, etc. Never worry about the # you see in your poker account, only the amount of actual buyins you plan to commit to the game.
Good luck on your journey!

Thanks for the reply

Thanks for the reply Ryan,

I've always thought of it in the monetary value & I guess thinking of it as a buyin # is also a way to get less tilty.

Had a rough day going from $35 -25. Couple bad beats, where king hits and my ace doesn't. Also calling shove's wih pocket eights and he flops over 9's lol .
However I'm not angry with my results as i've been trying to be more agressive and three betting hen i've got the BB's to cover it. Currently feel uncomfortable 3 betting rather than min raising as I feel it makes me more readable.

Think i'll have a break for hunsngs until I finish chadders pack.

im in similar sitaution as you :)
You bought chadders pack at start or decided it will be good some time later?
How are 1,5$ treating you? Ppl there are crazy sometimes ...... rarely i could find opponent playing decent - but u get alot of practice vs super aggro and calling stations :)

good luck!

Hey mate,   Yeah i've got

Hey mate,

Yeah i've got chadders pack, however only watched first episode. I've had exams and feel like chadders changes will need to be a progression change/ especially playing agro people at the 1.50 level.
I'm currently going ok, up a 5 bi's, after I had a bit of a downswing.
Not playing a whole lot with uni though.
I hate agro's who keep shoving, and when you finally call they flip over AK etc. haha
I've got a ton to learn, as someone called me a bingo player (never had that before) but I beat em anyway :3

Feel free to add me on skype wagsthedog5, let me know how you're going...we may have come across each other before.

Had a upswing of about 8 buy

Had a upswing of about 8 buy in's yesterday...and went down like 10 buy in's today lol.

Going to have a break from poker until exams are done; as I played crap couple games then kept getting sucked out having better cards etc.

Be back in a few weeks! ;)

Update: Exams are now all

Update:
Exams are now all finished.
Prior to exams I was pretty much at we're I initially started off maybe up about 2 bi's. But then told stars to lock me out of my account for a few weeks.
During exams I got a bit bored and signed up with 888, and started playing the 1.60 hypers, up about 15bi's which is good, most of the players are pretty bad. There's one guy I see a bit, he runs incredibly well against me, seems to hit everything against me but the variance will sort that out I guess grrr

Going to finish watch chadders pack & will go back onto stars!

Went really fucking shit

Went really fucking shit against this 1 guy today. Played about 10 times, I won like 2. It was totally fucked how good he ran against me, every time we ended up doing flips he would hit flushes, straight, trip or full house.
Generally don't get tilted, but the way he was running was just fucked & has got me venting.

Lol

Lol. Serious tilt ventage!
Imagine someone not caring about the result.
Now be that guy.

An update. I've been playing

An update.
I've been playing hypers over the hollidays, getting in a bit of olume. However Im not sure of my roi, it seems like every time I flip with someone they hit straight or trips every time :/
However have been profitable on the snap tournaments 888 run.
My stars account will be re activated in a few days, so i'll finally be off 888 (Which is one of the worst sites for bad beats, I know they're all supposed to be the same, however every second hand someone is either hitting a flush, straight or trips)
While poker is being profitable for me atm, especially considering I don't have tons to do on the hollidays; hypers aren't as profitable as I hoped; and a lot of it seems to come down to flips.

Hi there, I suggest you

Hi there,
I suggest you install PokerTracker and then look at your winnings graph with your EV-adjusted line. It will give you a good general sense of how "lucky/unlucky" you have been all those times when you got all-in. If the two lines are very close, the rng has been mostly even with you when you were all-in. If you really have been very unlucky as you say, you should see your winnings line way under the EV line.
As a general rule of thumb in hypers, I only care about the EV line which is sort of a "true" indicator of how accurate you have been when you got all-in. Maybe you should too. If the EV is +10 buy-ins but your actual winning is -2 buy-ins you should be really happy because you are playing pretty good and you were only unlucky. If the situation is reversed however, don't feel so good about your +$$$ and start worrying about why you have the habit of going all-in in bad spots.

Keep in mind though, that the EV-adjusted line only eliminated the luck factor in all-in pots. Even if the EV-line is running straight up/down, you might be running hot/cold in the cards dealt to you, so you need a few hundred games at least before you may draw any real conclusion.
