Slashes Rake and Deepens Super Turbo Structure

May 15, 2011 - The Merge Network followed through with their promise of lower rake and a deeper structure in their super turbo heads up sit and go games, slashing the rake by over 50% on some buyins and doubling the starting stacks of the games to 30bbs, from 15bbs previously.

The move comes less than 72 hours after Hero Poker's (a skin on the Merge network) CEO responded to player requests with the following statement: "Merge has listened and you will see changed tournaments in the very near future with rake reduced at all levels aside from $2.10.  And the 25/50 chip blind level [will be] added."

Those changes have been made, as promised.  The 25-50 starting blind level, as mentioned, created starting stack depths of 30bbs, allowing more room for skilled players to be rewarded with actual profits.  In fact, all of the changes made came directly from overwhelming feedback in the heads up poker community that the old structure was not beatable due to high rake and short starting stacks.

The reduced rake means levels such as the $8 level are now raked with an entry fee of .20 cents (2.5%) from the prevoiuis .40 cents (5%).  The network also took player advice about discounting the rake as the buyins increase, since the potential edges for players becomes smaller as stakes (and competition) increases.  One example would be the $120 buyin level, which now has rake of $2.30, or just over 1.9%.

Heads up poker players such as PrimordialAA and RyPac13 led the way, lobbying skins and making a logical case for the changes.
