Skatesblog: Should I Keep Blogging?

Hi everyone.

I quit poker on December 29, 2009.  I haven't played a single hand of online poker since then, unless you count sweating some friends for fun and not profit (same intellectual activity...).  I don't really miss it either, except for when RyPac tells me that ZISIMO7 went on a 200k run in HUSNGs.  It makes me want to take his money.  I'm not sure what to do about that.  I don't know how people aren't stomping on him.  The only real poker news I have is that I played in a company home game... lol.  +1200 big blinds.

Skatesblog: I'm Quitting Poker :)

Hey everyone,

I recently accepted a job offer to work on algorithmic modeling and trading for a high-frequency trading firm. Due to the highly competitive industry they are a part of, I will not be able to answer questions about the interview process or what exactly it is that they do. However, it should be clear that I wouldn't be leaving the world of professional online poker unless I were afforded an excellent opportunity.

I will be continuing to play until the end of 2009 while I reach Supernova Elite for the second year in a row.  After I have completed that goal, I anticipate quitting poker altogether.

I already answered a handful of questions on the 2+2 HUSNG Regs Thread about my poker career and development as a player, and I recently made a bunch of higher-level strategy posts in line-check threads about polarization and leveling.  If you start reading the Regs thread around comment #17000, everything is linked from there.

If you have more questions about what poker has been like for me or if there are any strategy concepts you'd like me to elaborate on, please post them here.

Skatesblog: LAPT ME Results!

Busto in 14 minutes.  I'm the best!

So play starts 5 handed because of course people aren't on time.  Luckily for me, all of the breakfast places weren't taking any more orders so I had to hit the snack bar and go right to the tournament site.  I sit down.  3 middle-aged men who looked like hobbyists and one young looking guy to my immediate left.  200BB to start, blinds 50/100.

Skatesblog: Off to Costa Rica!

Quick update:

I'm off to Costa Rica tomorrow for LAPT Playa Conchal.  Hopefully I'll just win the main event, but if not, I'll probably try to play the $10,000 single-table tournament side event.  We'll see how it looks.  Obviously, if you're reading this and will be at the LAPT event, get in touch with me and we'll meet up.  Sorry Jorj95, I won't be in your hyper turbos tomorrow ;p.

I also have a good chunk of money wagered on RyPac13/ChicagoRy in his prop-bet against Sandeep123.  When Sandeep got out to an early lead I got him to lay me 2.8 to 1, escrowed ahead of time.  Come on RyPac... get there...

IMPORTANT:  I am not taking on any new students.  I am sorry.  I haven't been able to respond to the 823472 PMs I got this week about it.  All will be made clear soon enough, I promise.  Do not PM me about coaching at this time.  I will make it clear to everyone if I resume coaching.

Skatesblog: Good days, Bad days...

So, I've dropped approximately 75k in the last two days running not-so-good at high-stakes everything.  Reflecting on the swings and fulfilling Rypac's wish of posting some nasty graphs, here are some highlights from my poker career.

First, yesterday's cash games:

But, to go with that, I've had some very good cash days:

That one is actually kind of sick because I ran 19k below at one point, then ended 5k above.

For hyper turbos, I had a really great week last week:

Obviously, the red line doesn't mean that much.  I just ran good in every way possible.  I'd love to post my -34k day in the $1785 hypers, but HEM didn't import them properly (used the wrong structure).  If someone could PM me a way to fix that I would be happy to post it for you.

For HUSNGs, it's harder to find a good day or bad day, so here is most of my $230s from this year:

Skatesblog: Really? Cash-Game Players?

As some of you guys know, I've been playing a lot of cash games recently, mostly 20-60BB deep.  I've pretty much come to the conclusion that none of the 10/20 or 25/50 regs (except for Himan33 and maybe those who have never played me) are skilled at maneuvering with less than 75BB effective stacks.  Whatever.  More interestingly though, is that some of the toughest players I've been facing were at lower stakes.  It seems like the people "beating" 25/50 are really just people who made a fortune a few years ago and now only play once in a blue moon when a game fills.

Ugh.  Okay.  So here's a mini-rant because it applies:

Skatesblog: I'm Coaching...

In an attempt to get some more structure in my life, I will begin interactive one-on-one coaching.  There are 5 times slots, all from 09:00-10:00 EST Monday through Friday.  There are no packages.  Your options:

1)  We play a series of HU matches at the stake-level of your choice.  After, I explain the adjustments I made and how I went about exploiting you specifically.  Many players learn how to exploit their villains, but leave themselves unbalanced in the process.  When taking this coaching option, I will detail how I go about staying a step-ahead of you in this process.  I only recommend this to players playing $115 games and higher, and you should be comfortable playing at least 2 tables so that we can start to see some trends.

Skatesblog: EPT London

Well, that's poker I guess?

I busted during Level 8 of Day 1A in the Main Event.  I ran horrible.  Whatever.

I lost both of my stacks in the 1100 GBP PLO Double Chance in a total of 8 hands.

I went completely card-dead on Day 2 of the 2700 GBP NLHE event to bust in 14th for barely more than a mincash.

I played an incredibly interesting hand against an online player in the 1650 GBP NLHE event to lose most of my stack, then busted shortly after.

I lost a flip in the 550 GBP shootout at a table of one decent player.

::sigh::

My record with KK against AA all-in preflop: 0-3
My record with AA against KK all-in preflop: 1-2

fk that.

Skatesblog: Big Prop Bet...

Hey,

I'm hoping to do a pretty huge prop bet for the second half of October.  Details are listed here .

What do you think?

Skatesblog: Trying Again

Hi everyone.  Sorry to my non-poker-playing followers... there's a lot about poker in this post...
