playing your A game

One thing I think that plays a big part of success for a poker player is finding motivation.  It's hard to play well when you are just trying to make money, just to have more money and it won't change your lifestyle at all.  Instead, try to set goals where you have to earn a certain amount in a certain period of time and reward yourself with these things whether you could afford them regardless or not.  If you don't make it, don't allow yourself to get the things you wanted if they aren't truly necessary to have.  In conjunction with some goals I've made for October, I have a few things listed that I want to get or do if I have a big October:

1.  Good tickets for the Cavs home opener vs the Celtics at the end of the month.
2.  Book a nice vacation in December after my semesters over.  I'm thinking either England to see some English Premier League games, or California to see some places I might be interested in living at in the future.

I've stressed not spending a lot of money so I'm only rewarding myself with these types of rewards if I have a HUGE month.  The first few days of October were either average or I didn't play at all.  However today I woke up rested and with nothing at all to do and really was happy with how I played.  I've booked  a solid $6500 day so far, and hope to play for a couple more hours.  I'm really excited to get back into poker serious once my seasons over in a couple months but until then will try and discipline myself to grind out good results under less than ideal conditions.  Gonna watch Curb your enthusiasm and entourage but will update again later this week.
