My name is Theo...

Hi all,

Just wanted to say what an awesome site.

I like playing poker live and online, I haven’t played much online for about 2 years but decided to get back into it. I prefer HUSNGs (hence I'm here) due to speed and single opponent.

I have HEM2 from a bonus I cleared 2 years ago.

Currently studying, reading and playing a bit. Wanted some peoples advice on the best possible way to go with my studying. Currently my plan is...

  • Play $3.5 on Stars Hyper/Turbo
  • Play one table until confidence has gone up and slowly add additional tables
  • Keep reading forums
  • Studying Mers Ebook (which is awesome)
  • Watch free content here and on youtube
  • Study other books (suggestions please)
  • Use HEM2 to assess where I’m first losing and secondly where I’m not winning enough
  • Review and post hands (probably here)
  • Once I have shown a profit use that profit to buy video pack and become a paying member at HUSNG (probably start with Premium pack)

Basically at the moment just wanting peoples advice, experiences and feedback on the above. Am I in the right direction, any articles/forum posts which are a must, etc.

Thanks for reading...

Theo

Hi there Theo2014

You might like to check out Will Tipton's books.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Expert-Heads-Limit-Holdem-Volume1-ebook/dp/B00A7...

They necessarily offer that much direct advice on how to play, but in terms of theoretical understanding they are unrivalled.

Hope this helps

Hi Adam,

Thank you for the reply.

I saw this book was available but using the link you sent me I was able to "look inside", I can easily say this will be a book a purchase shortly. I like its approach on subject matter. I didn't realize though it was Ebook which will be a good companion for Android Tab and Phone.

Thanks

In my opinion the first thing

In my opinion the first thing anyobdy should do is buy the Standard pack (or premium if the bankroll  allows it) and watch the 5 parts video series of Waldie: "Thinking like a Winner: an introductory series". There is hardly a better entry point. Especially for new players this will be so much value!

First you need to know how to play in general and then, while you study, you should focus on one thing a time. Do not try to optimize how you play in 3bet pots, in the bb, in the sb, versus a flat at the same time. Try to 'master' one thing at a time.

Hi Barrin, Thanks for the

Hi Barrin,

Thanks for the advice, I will consider buying the standard pack, I was hoping to skip the standard pack and purchase the premium pack straight off once my BR allows and in the mean time watch the free videos. There really is just so much information to digest on here!

I like your point about mastering play in one area at a time (once I have a solid foundation). Just out of interest what order would you put things in? I assume you would start with the most occurring and work downwards towards the least occurring; as the more frequent a situation the more equity that can be gained or not loss over time.

Well, the most important

Well, the most important things to learn should be the situation you are in the most:

SB-Play:

- What to open raise? How to adjust? How to response to a 3bet?

BB-Play:

- How do I defend my big blind? When do I defend passive? How does a bet bigger than a minraise influence my range?

There is much more value in learning this than in  learning "how do I response if he limps, I raise and he shoves all in", simply because the situation does occur less frequently.

Hey all, Sorry to bump my own

Hey all,

Sorry to bump my own old post.

So I continued to read Mers book, purchased Will Tipton’s book (awesome book well explained, currently half way through) and currently playing on the Ongame Network (had some free spins which won cash; which I decided to use to get comfortable playing HU). It seems to be quite a soft game there due to the lack of traffic but perfect for me to play the micros and learn the game from the ground up and I decided I prefer Ultra Turbos.

I have decided to purchase a video pack, the original plan was to get the Standard Pack but looking yesterday I noticed Sentins Crushing Fish Like a Boss... Has anyone got both the Standard Pack and Sentins and if o which would you recommend for a beginner? I’m currently swinging towards Sentins pack as it is based around what I want to do, start at the bottom and move up to the top. Then on the flipside the Standard Pack looks like it contains a lot of information and videos.

Any advice is welcome.

Theo

Sentin Video Pack

I just have the Sentin video pack. I feel it's worth it because it made me realize that I wasn't aggressive enough in spots.

I've watched the $1.50 and $3.50 videos so far because that's where I'm at. Since getting it I've been a much better player results wise. I've got a long way to go but Sentin's pack is a good start.
