Mizter 8 Hypers Thread

Hey guys! ;)

My name is Fábio, I have 24 years old and live in Portugal. This post introduces my quest to beat HU Hypers, climbing successfully in stakes (at least, I hope so).

Poker Background

I started playing 4/5 years ago, without any deposit. I played on Everest, Titan, Party, FTP until I decided to stick with Stars. I played a lot of formats like DON’s, 18max, 180man and finally HU (turbo/hypers). I was a micro stakes player, mainly playing during university vacations. Actually, I never thought about being a professional poker player. I just played because it was fun and I was having some profit (nothing crazy).

Life Background

I finished my nutrition degree 2 years ago and worked for 6 months before I quit and started my own endeavors. It didn’t go the way I expected so I took the decision to embrace Poker on a more professional manner. I’ve been playing for 3 months now, trying to adapt to the current environment and so far so good. My results shown below.

Poker Results

These are my Hyper results after my comeback. I´ve never receive coaching but, this year, I will be part of the Staking Program here at HUsng.com.

My plan

Right now, I’m playing 5 days a week, between 7 and 8 hours per day. I started mostly 1 tabling because I didn’t have a lot of confidence on my game and I’m going to keep it that way until I have a more solid approach to the game.

My goals plan as follows:

  • Each month, play between 1500-2000 games 1 tabling or 3500-4000 2 tabling;
  • Dedicate 35/40 hours per week to play and 5/10 hours to study;
  • Make a weekly post here with my results and some comments;
  • Successfully climb stakes and, hopefully, at the end of the year, beat 60$ games comfortably;

You can find more information about my journey and other things related and unrelated to poker on my website. If interested, go to fabioramos.me.

Right now, I’m still figuring things out with Staking Program managers but as soon as everything is ok, I will update with my January volume goal.

That’s it folks, hope you have a great year at the tables, GL GL! :)

Hey guys! :) I haven't played

Hey guys! :)

I haven't played a lot since last post, mainly due to my enrollment on Staking Program and my need to study new material. Still played ~380 games and I guess, although sample is really tiny, my game is getting sharper!

GOALS THIS WEEK:

  • Mainly study readless play against recs and how to adapt vs LAGs;
  • Play 300 games, applying what I learn;
  • Go trough HH’s once session ends and look for mistakes/room for improvement.

Time for an update! :)

Las week I played exactly 360 games and I'm running really really hot !  If you're on a downswing, you just discovered why ! :D I kept 1 tabling and studying as I planned but I expect to start mixing a 2nd table from time to time to start the transition.

Below is overall graph this month!

GOALS THIS WEEK:

  • Mainly study flop textures and how my range behaves accordingly;
  • Play 300 games, applying what I learn (mixing 1 and 2 tables);
  • Write spreadsheets for the new concepts.

Hey guys, the month has ended

Hey guys, the month has ended so I'm going to make a little review.

I'm certainly considerably hot despite the fact that I'm running below EV for overall games since my come back. I feel I have a more solid approach to the game and I noticed a great change in the way I'm dealing with loosing days (mainly because I know how to correct what I'm doing wrong or at least, I can ask for help and be almost certain that my strategy is bulletproof! :)

In the next month, I'm going to continue 1 tabling and spending a looot of time studying and reviewing games. I really want to be better than most players at 30$ by the time I start 2 tabling them. I will play between 1200-1500 games. I'm contradicting what I wrote in the first post but at that time I undervalued my studying time which is far more important right now than later on.

GOALS THIS WEEK

  • Mainly study flop textures/limped pot spots, implement and evaluate;
  • Play 300 games, applying what I learn (1 tabling);
  • Write spreadsheets for the new concepts.

I only played ~100 games last week so I will post Overall Month Results!

Hey guys, how you

Hey guys, how you doing?

February started slowly but steadily! Unfortunately, I didn't put a lot of volume (some external things got the best of me - flu) and I took some time to re-calibrate my internal strength. Regardless, I ended up on the green and I'm prepared to play more games this week!

GOALS THIS WEEK

  • Mainly study limped pot spots in and out of position, implement and evaluate;
  • Play 350 games, applying what I learn (1 tabling);
  • Write spreadsheets for the new concepts.

Hey guys, this week was the

Hey guys, this week was the worst this year. I played the amount of games I wanted (~360) but I went from +500$ in winnings to -100$ in just 200 games. I don't remember winning two games in a row. ahah

I didn't study as much as I wanted so as I'm able to play 2 games from now on, I will be able to put the same volume in less time. The remaining time will be dedicated to explore some areas of my game that still are unexplored.

Having said that, watch the roller coaster down there. Not funny. :(

GOALS THIS WEEK

  • Mainly study flop textures/limped pot spots, implement and evaluate;
  • Play 400 games, applying what I learn (mixing 1/2 tables);

Hey guys, another update on

Hey guys, another update on my journey! :)

This week, I managed to start adding a 2nd table from time to time and understand how my decision-making was affected or not. I felt great, but soon realized my brain couldn't function at its best for more than 3 hours playing 2 tables. I decided either to pause and come back later or to reverse to 1 table. Overall I like how my strategy has worked out until now.

The results weren't as good as I was hoping for, but I'm 25 bucks positive this month! Better than nothing.

I also studied a whole lot than in previous weeks and I felt more confident at the tables. Definitely a sign that I should do it more often. (I actually think studying every day is more beneficial than taking a whole day to study because of the added value of returning to tables with something to improve on. And the fact that you have to plan ahead the study slot of time keeps you more disciplined throughout the week instead of postponing to some day that most of the time will never come.)

Hey guys, this will be a

Hey guys, this will be a smaller post than usual. I'm a bit in a hurry.

Last month was not as good as the one before. Right now, I'm mostly 2 tabling and it definitely gets easier with time. In the last week of February, I studied every single day for at least one hour. It gives me motivation and confidence to grind next day so I'll be doing it a lot, even if it is only 30 minutes/day.

This week, I'll in London. Poker on break until March 11! :)

Results of February Month below.

Cheers, GL!

Hey guys, I'm back after a

Hey guys, I'm back after a mini vacation period!

I wasn't able to play a huge amount of games this month (it's comprehensible), but I will play most days until the end of the month to compensate. I already played ~ 500 games with a decent profit, I hope the rungood continues.

I will also try to achieve GoldStar this month. It's pretty obtainable at this point if I play at least 100 games per day. Some days, specially mornings, action isn't that great but what can I do? Just keep playing. :)

Below is the graph of March until now.

Hey guys, new update! As

Hey guys, new update!

As planned, I achieved GoldStar this month (on the last day of March)! I played roughly ~1500 games, which was really good considering I was off for 10 days.

My results were pretty solid, with 7% Ev ROI, as shown below. The best month in my (short) poker career with 1.7k winnings. ahah

I am actually studying what is going to be the next step, whether to "fight" 30$ division or to switch to Spins. I'll gather some opinions before I make my decision.

Hey guys! Firstly, thank you

Hey guys!

Firstly, thank you for your support @tiltmoarufish and @Bugaboo2389!

This will be my last post on this thread as I am switching to Spin and Gos. Yeah, that's right. In the meantime, I will open a new Spins thread here so you actually can keep following my results. Right now I'm mainly studying 3 handed play and playing some games from time to time to better understand dynamics and how good or bad the player pool is.

But I will go into more detail later.

GOALS THIS MONTH

  • Keep GoldStar status;
  • Study 5 days a week, at least one hour a day (I will definitely implement that as I don’t feel nearly confident with my 3handed game as I do with HU);
  • Play at least 1k games (but studying is the priority).

Just to wrap it up, I will post my all time HU graph since my comeback on October 2014.

I don't know if you remembered me but I'm Vermogen on PS, we have played a few times. I've also switched from

hypers to spins. How is it going so far, ran a little bit lucky in the prize pools? GL with the spins!
