Mich P Rich :: July -> Aug

Last blog I mentioned getting my ass into gear, so here's the update on that. Basically been playing 6-7 days/ week since July 1, where I have the lobby up 8-16hrs (obv play time is much less than this). I've been sitting the 100's DS and reg, 160-4m's. Last month I got in just over 300 games, 7.2% ROI for ~$3.1k, which is def a good month but makes me realize how hard it can be making a living at these stakes w/ the state of games today. I'm officially out of the black for this month starting yesterday, so that's very good - I was running $1.5k under EV (and have gotten in 200 games so I'm on pace volume-wise). My cost of living is just over 2k/mo, so w/o any padding in my life roll, break-even stretches can = busto, and good months can = b/e.

Keeping w/ the negativity theme, I just got myself to the doc because my ankle never healed correctly after I sprained it balling back in June. Looks like I've got some pulled ligaments, a bone chip and the first stages of arthritis (probably in both ankles). The lady at the ortho center felt up my ankles (o ya!) and said she could tell I've sprained them wayy more than my first guess of 10 times in my life. So, I'm now supposed to be going to physical therapy 2-3x/wk for SIX WEEKS @ 50$ a pop. I pay $360/mo for health insurance only to pay $50/ visit at a specialist - our system really is bullshit here. So, w/e.. unfortunately I gotta kinda put that on the backburner for now and remain a hermit in my apartment grinding 24/7 to pay for my old-man-body repairs.

What else..  Nothing really eventful going on since I can't justify going around spending.. Had a couple family cookouts over the weekend - nice to get outside and enjoy time w/ people I don't see very often (especially because I used to work all weekends in the restaurant, I was always absent at these get-togethers for the last 4 years or so). Always gotta put up w/ the poker-life inquiries from non-understanding relatives, but since it's been half a year since I went pro I think they are starting to see it as a somewhat-legit way of making a living, and the people who aren't strongly opposed to it seem genuinely interested in how it works/ what I do, so I don't mind chatting about it at all w/ them.

So I guess that's it - nothing eventful really, just the life of a poker grinder trying to make it - nothing glorious about it, but while I'm able to keep paying the bills I'm really happy w/ what I'm doing, and hopefully I'll be able to get out of the hole soon and start saving money, and have more time on the side to have a much more balanced life. I'm 26 and still have a ton of living to do - and make up for.

Mich
