Mersenneary Video 19 - Facing an Aggressive Heads Up SNG Player on Two Tables

mersenneary's picture

Mersenneary two-tables pro "Rumnchess" at the $110 + 5 level in this extended play 65-minute video.  Throughout, he talks about how to adjust bet sizings and ranges when playing thinking players.  Adjusting against heads up sng players who attack river weakness with big value bets and bluffs is also discussed, along with the gameflow concerns of playing in aggressive heads up poker matches.

Great video as usual. Coming over from CR, DC, Leggo and being a MTT/hu cash guy online/live your videos are awesome.Filled with so much detail and there is just so much value in watching them and I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the time  you put in to make such great quality!

One thing that you made very transparent is Rumnchess thin value/ turning his hand into a bluff range on rivers to be very wide and capable. I noticed you used this line a lot to induce him for max value. I am curious if you were thinking Rumnchess was going to adjust to your strategy and if so would you have started to lead out to balance to adjust?I noticed a few hands where it seemed like he was checking back and starting to adjust. I think with some of the hands you were checking to him on rivers it must have put a red flag in his mind.  Also, to mix it up on rivers would you ever lead small  vs Rum to induce him into the deception that there  fold equity?

One of your 3bets with A10 you stated it was optimal to 3bet smaller. I was just curious what your thinking is there? A10 as a 3bet out of position smaller just does not seem as good because the lack of fold equity and how poorly it plays post flop. I prefer the larger 3bet sizing oop vs a compt player. A10 seems like a hand you would want to pick up the pot and gain the most fold equity possible. Instead of inviting a call from a player who will play a wide range of hands and floats wide too.

Also, great class as an instructor. Are you still doing private coaching?

Thanks,

Thanks for the feedback!

I did try to lead some rivers small to induce I think a couple times in this video (maybe that was only in position). I definitely did feel like rum realized I was adjusting - which is cool, it means I can get away with having a weaker river range again.

The AT hand I freely admit I didn't explain very well. The two things at play are the stack sizes, which make it more awkward to 3bet/??? to a shove (awkward doesn't necessarily mean bad, but I think it does here), and the qualities of AT as a hand which make me want to 3bet larger. I think the two sizings are pretty close in equity given the other things to think about (gameflow, his perception of my 3bet sizings, etc). I don't mind the criticism of the inconsistency, I think it's fair.
