Mersenneary Hyper Turbo Review: Shortstack HU Topics

October 31, 2011 - 02:40

Mersenneary reviews a new student's play at the $100 hyperturbo level. He talks about that awkward stack of 11-13bb deep from the small blind and how to make the best decisions, interpreting opponents who start to raise 3-3.5x 25bb deep, and other shortstacked topics.

q7o at 6 mins u talk about either 3b or folding (12bb). do you think flatting is a mistake? what sort or range would you flat in that spot?

Opening jamming AKo vs minraising it at 10bbs. I understand that you talked about how Ax and Kx hands are calling anyway and we aren't doing great against JT type hands, but in general aren't Ax and Kx hands 3bet jamming anyway and we can play AKo well enough postflop to increase our EV vs JT,Q9 type hands, especially since we have a nut showdown hand that can easily check down.
Also since our pairs are so nutted that we can check back dry flops and improve our overall EV on later streets from worse hands improving their equity and air that gets a chance to bluff.
Is this much different from AQo and AJo? We dominate more of a flatting range with the stronger Q and J that would otherwise fold to an open jam. What about AKs at 10bbs, do you still open jam?
Just wondering about spots like this because as a standard I always minraise AKo/AQo at 10bbs without a specific read not to. I don't have a huge sample but so far my stats are:
9.5 - 10.5bbs
Open jamming = 1.78bb/hand (5)
MRing = 2.15bb/hand (42)
AKo and AQo
OJ = 1.68bb/hand (11)
MRing = 2.63bb/hand (74)
Would like to see others samples on open jamming to see if their bb/hand is more than mine

27 min: Do u like a small bet with t9o on the turn from 50 to 60 chips to induce action from weakest hands?
Do u think 90 chips is optimal size of bluff and not-bluff 3bet at 10-20 blinds level in regs wars?
Thank you.

Hi csaba,
The ebook is scheduled for release December 15th, 2011.
It will include at least 27 articles written by Mersenneary.
It will be totally free to download in PDF or view on site here and you'll see it on our main page, in our newsletter, on twoplustwo and probably in a load of other places once it is released. It is currently being translated in at least one other language (Russian), but we may add more if there is interest.
