Mersenneary at the High Stakes

September 11, 2011 - 03:45

Mersenneary plays a $2200 turbo against CompleteDonk. He talks about what opponent characteristics make limping with medium-strength holdings much worse than minraising, about broader adaptations when you see people don't thin value bet and also like to trap with their big hands, and reveals a massive betsizing tell on himself.

Late Ariba says:
To jam or not jam 22 vs. 60% opener (14:00) I understand the logic behind calling 22 vs. a tight raising range instead of jamming.
However, don't you think that the very tendency that makes somebody raise a tight range is the very same that makes them fold a ton thus still making the play profitable. His AI calling range in such spots is surely proportinately reduced and very narrow in line with his overall tendency. i.e. he could be folding folding KQ,AJ, 33-99 and even AQo (especially full ring MMTers obsessed with domination issues).
mersenneary says:
We really don't care whether or not he calls with AQo, KQ, AJ, etc. Yes, it does matter whether he calls with small pairs, but the difference between 60% opener and 100% opener matters significantly more than based on whether he calls 22+ or 55+. You can also certainly make the argument that you have better expectation postflop from flatting against a nitty player than an aggressive player which mitigates the second concern.
