Interview with Spin and Go reg Knut 'smatt' Turk

Charles Hawk: How your Spin game changed comparing with year ago? What weaknesses have you eliminated what strengths have you gained?

Knut 'smatt' Turk: One big change that has happened is the way I play from the btn, now I'm minraising instead of limping as a general rule.

I think the biggest gain during that time comes from playing current/former HTHU regulars from 60s+ a lot, which has improved my own game quite a bit.

Charles Hawk: Are you still studying Spins hard? Are you improving your preflop strat or is it basically set as a default unchangable for some time now?

Knut 'smatt' Turk: There is always room to improve, but in terms of playing vs recreationals it's a somewhat fixed strat for now.

Charles Hawk: What new moves have you learned post? Or if its a secret, have post flop game got tougher compared with year ago? How?

Knut 'smatt' Turk: Postflop game seems to have been improving steadily in the regular player pool, which is really no surprise considering the various tools that are around for solving postflop play.

Knut 'smatt' Turk: My new most favourite move postflop is mindonking all 3 streets.

Charles Hawk: Tell me how population tendencies have changed comparing with year ago? Is it significantly tougher to grind? Hows your hourly compared with year ago (not counting that big win/hit you had)?

Knut 'smatt' Turk: I think overall the population has become a little tighter, it seems there is less complete spewtards around and recreationals are probably picking up things (e.g. tight btn ranges) as they keep playing these games.

Knut 'smatt' Turk: Wouldn't say the grind is significantly tougher, yes the regs are improving but overall games are healthy in terms of reg/rec ratio so it's not the end of the world. Since I'm mixing stakes and playing somewhat variable amount of tables at times, getting a clear overview of my hourly would be a bit complicated :P

Charles Hawk: How do you approach the game versus how do you think your opponents do?

Knut 'smatt' Turk: At this point most of my study time goes towards playing vs regs, whether in a 3- or 2 handed scenario, and less towards approaching rec games.

I feel like parts of the regpool are less concerned with that part of the game than some others...

Charles Hawk: Are you as exciting as before or is it more like a job for you? Tell me how are you balancing grind and coaching with leisure stuff? What do you do for a spare time?

Knut 'smatt' Turk: I still enjoy playing the games pretty much the same as I did a year ago. As or leisure I have actually picked up playing pool again, something that I used to do excessively way back in younger days, and I'm quite enjoying it :)

Charles Hawk: Do you think Amaya would ever introduce 200s and 300s for Spins? Could it be successful step actionwise?

Knut 'smatt' Turk: I don't see why they wouldn't if there was reasonable demand for them, but I doubt they would have passed on doing so already if there was.

Charles Hawk: Are you concern about 2017? Do you think Amaya could introduce new cuts?

Knut 'smatt' Turk: I think that's something we have to be wary of considering the changes that have already happened, but I don't see there being any other viable options compared to PS at this point so it's not really a major concern.

Knut 'smatt' Turk: And it's pretty clear already that Amaya has a certain way of handling things that does not necessarily comply with the reg pool's wishes...

Charles Hawk: What goals have you set for 2016? Are you happy with your 2016 results and performance so far? What are you lacking for it to be perfect (if luck is not counted)?

Knut 'smatt' Turk: I don't have any particular goals for 2016 , basically I want to play well and improve my game as much as I can so I can achieve decent results. I would like to hit some volume goals for the year but that's nothing out of the ordinary really.

Knut 'smatt' Turk: So far 2016 has been a little rough, been on quite a downswing since beginning of March, but as long as people keep shoving 4th pair "for value" I have faith in a bright future :D

Knut 'smatt' Turk: I'm fairly happy with my overall results though, and knowing where the areas that I have to improve in are gives me confidence that I will achieve my desired results in the end.
