Hokie: Weekly Feature 7 - Card/Situation-dead (Live Hypers)
cross-posted from www.hokiegreg.com
Hey guys. I hope you are all having a successful month.
I recorded this video a few days ago. At first I was like, meh, boring video...not a lot of interesting spots. After some review, it hit me that it might actually be interesting to some of you bc of how card-dead/situationally-dead I am in these games.
So many players I coach, when they are situation/card-dead, start to spew bc they feel "not in control of the flow of the match" or "no momentum" (or some similar suboptimal reason...planning to do a blog post on this topic soon). When situationally dead, the answer is not to make suboptimal plays at random just to regain "momentum"...the answer is to use the dynamic created from the gameflow (likely a nitty image), and if you can assume your opponent is paying attention to your image...use the dynamic and image created through the natural progression of the game optimally (we can likely bluff in a lot more spots than usual).
Basically, you shouldn't only know how to use an aggressive image/dynamic optimally (or as close to optimal as you can play, it's not like I play perfect poker obv). A great poker player makes optimal decisions and adjusts to the different dynamics that are created from those decisions optimally.
Since it's a live video, I don't really address this main point directly in the video...so just keep it in mind when watching it. It might be a boring video for some of you, but if you find yourself getting spewy when carddead I think it might help to put some things in perspective for you.
Let me know what you think!
Also, what do you guys think of my new blog layout/design? More readable, I hope?

Great theme to issue, I def start spewing a bit when running carddead because it makes me feel week to play that nitty-
Strange that you didnt DBT when villain checked flop on:
QT on AK7.7 – because that a board you expect him to CB with air? How about protecting our hand?
Q3 on K96r.K – Because he can have 9x/6x in his range and wont fold if we lead, again, How about protecting our hand (obbsessed with that term)?
J7 on QT5hh.2 – This one is even dryer to the previous hand and we have som more eq here I think.
K4 on 975r.A – Ya Ax can be in his checking back range, but so can also K3, we dont know that yet, so would it be bad to barell turn + scary river (Q/J/T/8/6)
85 on 872m, what about CB 75-100% vs fish to make them pay for draws? I often pot these boards as well as JTxss board when I have the nuts because I dont think they can fold.
The A94 mono board. If you where villain OOP with 9x, would you cr to protect vs FD or just cc? When we cc this flop we dont rep Ax so he could easily barell any card over 9 i think and we dont rep any strond FD either so he should CBT if the flush hits aswell, right?
Good things you said about not turning hands into bluffs without knowing his freqencys. I hate the feeling of beeing uncreative, just playing like a NIT as you said, so I do acctually start doing stupid shit just because I want to be more ”in the game”.
And then when you decide to do your first 3B bluff you run into aces and then bust on river. Did that affect you or do you think you can still play your best after that. I would feel like I cant beat this villain so I quit and play someone else that I have a better flow against. Wrong mentality?
(tried to post on your blogg but I dont have any of the identification feuteres)
