First blog entry - a mind game
Hello everybody,
This is my first blog entry. The intention is to keep this a regularly updated blog about my evolvement as a heads up sit and go specialist.
My poker story so far:
First time i played poker was back in high school when i was around 16 years old, I played with friends when there was spare time but I didn't really play much and I didn't really understand the game or found it very interesting... this was back around year 2000. Fast forward 7 years when I out of boredom as far as I can remember deposited my first online poker deposit. I was now more excited about poker and I started out playing NLH cash games 6 and 10 handed and also played around with 6 man sit n goes. I played around 10 hours a month and was a marginal loser, although i didn't track my results.
Then in 2009 i discovered two things: Pot Limit Omaha and heads up cash games. Being a marginal loser at NLHE cash 6 max I somehow decided to combine the two most variancecharged things in poker, so i started playing PLO HU cash 0.25/0.50. I was very bad at this as I had major tilt issues + didnt study the game at all + only had vague feeling for equity and how much variance there is in PLO HU cash compared to NLHE 6 max. So in early 2010 after playing close 100.000 hands of PLO HU and losing many many of buy ins in this sick sick game, I was close to quitting poker when I found heads up sit n goes. The format appealed to me instantly because each SNG was set-up as a sort of chess game. At first I started out playing PLO HU SNGs but the traffic was so slow that I decided to switch to NLHE SNGs, although now being a bit rusty in this game. This was around 3 months ago.
Late July I decided to join HUSNG.com for 1-month after browsing the site for some time. So far I have been very pleased with the contents on the forums and the videos I watched so far. I have never been good at posting hands in forums and discussing strategy in general but I will probably soon start doing this actively, to help my understanding of the game.
Anyway below is a list of the leaks I have identified in my game:
Obvious tilt issues. We all have these but I so much need to work on my emotional control
Focus. I need to be able to stay in focus for alot longer than I am currently able to. I watched Cogs video regarding focus and found it very helpful. I like the idea of splitting sessions into smaller sessions and focusing on playing your A game for the next 30 mins or so and then take a short break. I will implement this in schedule and see how that works out.
Identifying villains ranges. Self explanatory I guess.
I have many more leaks but these are the most important I need to work on at the moment. I will try follow up on a weekly basis and also give an update on my results at least once a month to try and motivate me to blog and play my best at all times.
I am working full time so I will "only" be able to dedicate around 10-15 hours each week on poker (playing + studying) and I plan to be able to single table around 350-450 games each month. I wont put up any short term monetary goals but I will start playing the 5 dollar SNGs and at first "just" aim for a positive ROI :)
Sorry for the long post but this is it for now. In the mean time I hope you all play good and run better!

Seems like you have a lot of experience of poker. Just watch a lot of videos. Even if you dont listen it 100% focus, those vidoes will go to your subconcious mind and you will learn from them. I was a pretty big and tight fish wihtout this site and now I have atleast a positive ROI%. Wellcome to the "team" husng members :)

Hi L Hussle!
Thanks for the advice. I have been watching a lot of videos and that has definetely helped me understand the basics of this particular variant of poker. Think I will try and use about 30-40% of my time to study and then the rest of the time playing atm.
