Dealing with variance

I am currently running 20 buyins below ev at the $7 hypers.I know it's not that much but I don't deal with swings well at all and get massively tilted as I swing further and further down below ev. Any tips on how to deal with the swings? Also how many games do I have to play to get a realistic idea of my win rate?

How do you react to upswings?

How do you react to upswings? I'm guessing you don't. When we're on an upswing we tend not to look too much into it. We're good enough to win, we're winning, it's the way it should be. Right. No reaction. Upswings and downswings are part of Hypers, no getting past it. What really helped me when I started was a game where I was down to 20 chips and got dealt AKs,99,KK and KK in four consecutive hands and won the game. I wrote down those four hands on a post it and stuck it on the top corner of my screen to remind myself that this will happen for and to me. That seems a very simple solution but it works. If something like that doesn't work just take a break and and occupy your mind with something mundane. Tidy the house, lift some weights, go for a run. You can't play your A game with your heartbeat pounding in your ears. But not playing while on a downswing is not the answer, it's something you will have to just plough on through.
