August 28, 2011 - 04:04

In this video Borg7 two tables the 50 and 100 Euro levels on PokerStars.fr. He plays a variety of standard competition, mostly subpar opponents, an exception being a semi-regular. He discusses his approach against everyday competition and the adjustments he makes to each specific opponent.

Hey lovelydonk,
I regularly update my blog on HUSNG.com with my most recent stats.
These are my current stats for Pokerstars.FR and Full Tilt Poker (both almost only turbos):
Stars.FR: (it says it's $ but it's really €)
Full Tilt: (stopped playing there end of April)
I played a number of games on numerous other sites but don't really have post-worthy samples there.
If you have any further questions, feel free to add me on Skype (borg177) or ask me anywhere else.

Hi Borg,
Nice video. This is the first one I have watched from you so you may have covered this in another video, but I notice you min raise as standard from the start. I'm just wondering if you always like to stick to this or if you ever change raise sizes through the match and if so, what would make you do so?
Thanks

@FreakOfNature,
I minraise as a standard because I think in general the difference in EV between minraising, 2.5x'ing and 3x'ing is minuscule and more or less negligible. When I play 3-4 tables, it's much easier for me just to minraise as opposed to typing in a 2.5x every time I raise a button. There's certainly nothing wrong with 2.5x'ing up until 25-30bb and then switching to a minraise for example as a standard.
I do adjust my raise sizes sometimes if i want to create a different pot-stack-ratio post flop based on villain's tendencies or if I for example notice that 3x'ing has a huge impact on villain's fold_bb and 3bet percentage.
I hope you're satisfied with my response. If not, please let me know and I'll expand on it.

I've been thinking about my preflop game lately and I'd be interested in your standard overall defending range to a 3x. I see that you defend Q7o to a 3x @ ~75bb (26:20) and Q4s (1:30) as well. These are both folds for me vs 3x without a special type of opponent, like someone stationy who doesn't cbet and opens every button. I may be far too tight as a standard and frequently fold even A6o. I know plenty of strong players that defend almost 50% to a 3x so perhaps this is a very costly mistake.
I'd appreciate if you could PokerStove your normal range here or in your next video, maybe even with some HEM stats on the marginal Axo hands. I've been debating 3-betting vs calling them for a while now but since I play on Bodog and there's no reliable tracking software, I've never been able to get any data to support either option.

@Katipo: I defend pretty wide in general because I believe that against an unknown 75bb deep my EV when I defend to a 3x with weak-ish hands is often better than the -1bb EV I'd get if I just folded the hand. Q7o and Q4s are pretty much the bottom of my defending range though. Those hands have enough post flop playablility to make them better than -1bb in EV when I defend to a 3x for sure imo.
I definitely wouldn't fold A6o to a 3x 75bb deep vs a unknown. I'd defend any Ax at that stage.
I think about 50% sounds like an ok calling range there.

Hey borg great to see another video.
only 1 thing to ask, at 6mins you 4bet jam 66 over your opponents first 3bet @32BB, can you explain your reason for that play as you didn't go over it in the video?
Borg7 says:
@Slatey: Haha, I recorded this video at 4am. I'll try to record the next one a bit earlier so I won't sound too fatigue. =)
@BetMagicMoney,
We're only 13 hands in at that point so we can't really say too much about villain's 3bet range. We've only raised 6 buttons in the entire game so far and the fact that he didn't 3bet us once over that sample, isn't too meaningful. He could still have a fairly wide 3betting range.
In general, when people 3bet 60->150 it's a hand like KQ/KJ/QJs/... which they often aren't willing to call a jam with. Given that we should have a decent amount of fold equity and 66 doesn't play well post flop when we flat, I think jamming is by far the most +EV option. In addition, even if he does call our jam, we should have ok equity against his range.
