Volume, Volume, Volume

So as the title suggests, the theme for this post is volume.

I'm playing the 15s now as per my previous post, it's started ok but honestly I have a pathetic sample, i think i'm at like 10 games since i posted which is simply terrible.  I feel pretty confident with my game at the moment and I am happy with how I played regardless of results.  My goal is to put in a MINIMUM of 10 games per day and really aim closer to 20 but right now it's just not working out like that.

Too many distractions around the home can be good and bad.  I believe it's good for maintaining a healthy balance between life and poker, but it's also very problematic when it comes to grinding because not only does it limit grinding time, it also greatly effects the quality of that session.  Not only am I struggling to get games in, I am also struggling to get QUALITY games, so I often end up having to settle for my B or even C+ game which is clearly less than ideal.

Moving up to where people respect my raises

So this might be the last 'moving up' entry for a while.  I was keeping to my strict BRM plan of taking shots until around the $150 mark.  At this point I decided to just deposit a little extra and carry on at the 15s with a reasonable roll.  I feel like I was losing too much by playing that low when I could be playing higher and improving a lot quicker.

So from now on i'll be grinding the 15s, until around 30 buyins when I guess i'll take a shot at the 30s.  Haven't decided yet on 1 table or 2 table.  I think i'll start out single tabling and add another if I feel the games are soft enough.  If i'm only beating them for a low ROI (or losing) then i'll stick to single tabling until I can increase that figure.  Not sure how long it will take to move out of the 15s, I tried using the husng.com variance calculator but it doesnt seem to want to work with internet explorer :(

Moving up at the micros

So quick update on current progress, let's recap the plan first;

  • $1.50s up to $15
  • $3.50s up to $100
  • $7s up to $200-250
  • $15s from $200-250 onwards depending on how i feel

I hit my $100 goal, it's sort of funny because if you look at my graph, at the highest point before the mini downswing i had $99.52 and decided to keep playing until i cleared the 100 mark before moving up to the 7s.  Of course I ran like crap and dropped down to $80ish.  Anyway, grinded it back up, ran nicely in a few spots and i've reached my goal.

Starting from scratch, thanks Full Tilt...

So with a new start on Stars I figured i'd start my blog up again, it might help me keep track of my progress a bit better, and encourage me to make sure i keep studying and keep working hard so i always have some news to update here.  If i have no news, then chances are i am not putting in volume or studying enough.

On Full Tilt i was playing the 22 turbos, having grinded up from lower stakes.  I was just getting settled there and starting to set my sights on the 33s when full tilt went down (temporarily i hope).

I've decided to carry on with poker, I don't plan on taking any breaks.  I feel my games has come on so far with the help of husng.com, my coach, and the study group im in, i don't want to lose all of that, and i'm still very determined in my goals to reach higher stakes, so the only question now is what's my next move.  As far as i am concerned i have two main choices;

Blog entry #1 - Grinding up from the micros

Hey guys,  so i've decided to start blogging here in an attempt to help myself keep some kind of work ethic, share thoughts and generally improve on my game - hopefully someone is reading so I can get some additional input :)

Firstly me: I work full time in the video games industry, and I am currently in the middle of launching a game which means less time for poker, but I still try to cram in as much as possible.  I used to play a ton of HUSNG back in December 09 where I moved from the $2 games up to playing $10 with a $1,000 BR (I was a total BR nit) I also got settled on the $20 games at NoiQ poker and ran up a bunch of cash before withdrawing for real life reasons.  Below you can see my stats accross stars and FTP, currently I a only playing on FTP.
