palinca : noise, drunkenness and scandals

Hi everyone, this is my first post since before the Barcelona boot camps, a lot has happened since then so I'm going to make some kind of entry before this blog ends up in the usual bowl of fail. It's 6:33 am and I'm on my flatmates computer with a keyboard I'm unfamaliar with, so I'm not going to edit much.

palinca : thoughts on lifestyle (tl;dr!)

I used to have problems answering the question : "what do you do in life?". Nowadays, I just tell people I'm a freelance translator (which is partly true); a respectable profession, one that people can wrap their heads around, and one that explains how I manage to jump around places as much. It's only part of the picture though. I've had income from a variety of sources in recent years; I've commentated football for bookmakers; worked in restaurants, cleaned floors at hospitals, counted people in tramways from 5 a.m to 12 p.m, grinded low stakes poker home games (weeee 80/5 rich kids) and online for a few months, taught chess in schools, tested drugs for science, worked as mover. So in many ways I've been a "furita" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furita ).

palinca : freedom, random sh*t

I left the clinic yesterday. I do have to go back every morning till sunday and have to follow strict recommendations (no coffee, no orange juice, no physical exercise including sex, no alcohol...). Overall it was an interesting experiment. Next time I'll get into one of these (probably in Brussels, check out the pics of this place :  http://www.brusselscru.com/pages/photo_gallery.aspx) I'll make sure to push the social experiment and make a point to interact more with the staff and volunteers. The last couple of days were less boring;  we were even treated to a visit from the police. Basically I got into a little tif with patient "BACFL"; a skinny 19 year old rich kid with a big mouth. It all started with him hogging the playstation 3 despite the fact he was playing MY game (LoL teenagements). I'm a fairly zen fellow so I ended up dropping it and ignoring him.

palinca : plans, plans...

Blog not dead yet, weeeee.....

I have a poker game with my fellow inmates tonight. Not betting money, but something much more valuable in the current context : food. I was expecting some repulsive Ryanair type menus coming in here, but the food has actually been a nice surprise, my only complaint being that there is not enough of it. I'm big on snacks at home (saucisson, anyone? if you don't know what that is you are missing out on something), and the barren stretch between 1 and 9 p.m here is difficult. So if I can hustle a piece of cheese or some fruit tonight, I'll be happy. Of course, I'm playing a SNG with french donks so I'll probably run my AA into a flopped 2 pair with 82dd and end up not eating tomorrow, but at least it's good practice for the WSOPE in Cannes (I plan on playing an event there).

palinca : quick intro

Hey people -

My name's Jeff, I turned 28 a few days ago (feels weird writing that number, am I an adult now???). Swiftly abandonned blogs are a speciality of mine, but maybe having a few readers will have interesting effects on my commitment/discipline, who the heck knows.

I had planned to start this at around 9 p.m, but got caught up in a skype convo with my poker "study" group after somehow the topic of sex came up. 3 disturbing hours later I've turned the distractions off, feel a tad sleepy and uninspired, but am intent on powering though and posting some kind of OP before I crash. At home I would probably be sipping on some wine/vodka to get things flowing (à la Bukowski), but I'm not at home. I'm at a clinic, and have been for the last 8 days, testing some kind of drug against diabetes-related complications (don't ask me more, I didn't really read what I was signing haha).
