One thing I think that plays a big part of success for a poker player is finding motivation. It's hard to play well when you are just trying to make money, just to have more money and it won't change your lifestyle at all. Instead, try to set goals where you have to earn a certain amount in a certain period of time and reward yourself with these things whether you could afford them regardless or not. If you don't make it, don't allow yourself to get the things you wanted if they aren't truly necessary to have. In conjunction with some goals I've made for October, I have a few things listed that I want to get or do if I have a big October:
1. Good tickets for the Cavs home opener vs the Celtics at the end of the month.
2. Book a nice vacation in December after my semesters over. I'm thinking either England to see some English Premier League games, or California to see some places I might be interested in living at in the future.
Its been a while and I appologize for that. I have more or less been out of the poker world the last 9 months, at least compared to the previous couple years. The year has continued to be disapointing for me from a poker standpoint. The only two months I really crushed like I did last year were June and July when I did not have other distractions like school and soccer which are taking up a ton of time. As much as I wanna do well, it's just not possible to be a world class player while having other obligations that take up so much time. After this semester is over, I am really going to get back into poker. It's my last ever soccer season so when it ends I'll suddenly have a ton of time to really get back into the mode of dominating HUsngs. For now though it's been a nice change of pace after working my ass off at the tables for 2.5 years.
my favorite show is back and it's been pretty good so far, only two episodes in but I like the way this season is going so far. Any guy who hasn;t seen it is missing out cuz it's quality.
This past weekend I went to an island off of Lake Erie called put-in-bay for a little vacation and soccer tournament with some friends, Our team ended up winning the mens open division and had a good time both nights we were there. Now its the home stretch and I'm weeks away from my final college season and really getting excited for it. One thing I'm not excited for is a stupid online class I decided to take. I have to complete 7 total tests for it and still have 3 to go with the class ending this week. I thought the class would be a joke but it's actually been a major pain in the ass especially during the summerwhen I'm not in the mood for school at all.
Well my first WSOP experience didn't go as great as I would of liked. I drew 2p2er Ben86 in the first round. He is a 10-20nl cash player and we both played pretty well, not making any mistakes. With the blinds at 300-600 and me holding a slight 32k-28k lead, I opened the button to 1500 with 88. For the third straight time, he 3bet my button open to 4500. I made a pretty trivial and standard shove for his 28k. He didn't insta and I knew right away I wasn't against an overpair. After about 20 seconds he said something along the lines of 'i don't think I can 3bet-fold' and I was a little puzzled as what he could have. He ended up calling with AQo which was stronger then I thought he had after the comment he made but I still wasn't in love with the fact that we were flipping for the match essentally. Board came out K94QQ and I was all but gone. I still have no complaints with any real decisions I made and just was a bit unfortunate to not catch a break. He ended up making it to the final 16 so hats off to him.
Hey guys, just writing here from my room in the Venetian in anticipation of the $10,000 heads up tournament at the WSOP saturday. Right now i'm beyond excited for the weekend and hope to bring good news in a few days. I'll try to update daily on what me and my friends get into during the next few days. Today I rode first class on the flight here for the first time and it was definitely worth it. I got off the plane not feeling tired or groggy like I usually do after a flight. Me and my brother got in at about 10 AM and had a few hours to kill before we could get into our rooms. I registered for the $10k and got that all taken care of and then decided to play some 1-2nl at the Venetian cuz I was tired of walking and wanted to just relax and not have to worry about thinking. I ended up winning a little over $200 in about 90 minutes, starting out pretty tight and ABC and opening up more as the game went along and taking control later on. No real huge hands, just a few medium sized pots and not bleeding chips off ever really. Now I am just going to chill and watch the lakers-magic game (have $10
It's nice to be on a break from the busy lifestyle that I've had to deal with from being back in school and what not. I got my grades back and somehow got all A's and B's (WTF). I haven't had to wake up to an alarm in a couple of weeks now. Pokers going great for me with the lack of responsibilities and distractions that I've had. May's shaping up to be a big month although I don't want to get ahead of myself as there's still plenty of poker to be played.
What else that's been happening besides poker? Well I've been glued to the TV whenever theres been good NBA playoff action on and now that we're down to the last 4 teams I can almost taste the Cavs taking home this championship. I've also tried to do some sort of physical activity every single day and I'm certainly in the best shape I've been in in the last 3 or 4 years. There's a 5.25 race this Sunday that I'm running in which I'm looking forward to.
So I'm a couple finals away from finishing my first semester back on the grind of school and can't be too upset with how it went. I should finish around a 3.0 to a 3.2 which is ok with me considering I don't exactly put in a ton of effort. I have a few weeks off then and then will start a few online classes which I am hoping will be a breeze. This time off should give me an excellent time to put in a dominant run at the tables. I've said it time and time again but I truly feel it's impossible for me to play my best when I am waking up at 8:00 in the morning everyday. For some reason if I am not getting comfortable sleep and having a rushed and busy day I can't play near my A game which equals less money coming in. I'm hoping these online classes will be a joke and obviously waking up early for them won't be a concern which is huge.
As someone who watches almost all of the Cavs regular season games as well as having league pass, I thought I'd throw out my two cents on how I see the playoffs turning out with a little bit of bias towards the team with the best record in the association this year:
Eastern Conference:
1 Cavs vs 8 Pistons - Detroit used to always try to bully the Cavs when they were just babies a few years ago, but after Cleveland beating them in 2007 in 6 games, the Cavs clearly have a strong mental edge over a team which isn't sure what direction it is trying to go in. Prince isn't a bad guy to guard Lebron with and Rasheed and McDyess are solid interior players but their lack of depth and overall feeling that they want their season to be over with makes it look like an easy win for Cleveland. I think Detroit will steal game 3 at the Palace but Cleveland will roll in every game at the Q and win game 4 in Detroit. Cleveland wins in 5.
Hey guys,
Sorry for not updating for the past 3 weeks or so. Here's what's been going on:
